The Top Nine Performing, APRIl 1, 2008

Tonight was American Idol 7’s first mentor week, and it was great to watch the famously talented Dolly Parton coaching the contenders ! The songs the choose were great, and some performers arranged their songs in their own unique fashion.

All in all it was a very good night, with almsot every contender doing at the very least decent work

As usual, some stood out from the final nine Idol hopefulls ! Here are the three that I thought were the best of the week during this country music inspired night on Idol !

Tonight this final five contestants took on songs from artist & composer Neil Diamond.

David Cook, David Archuleta, Brooke White, Seysha Mercado & Jason Castro were all attempting to make these cover songs original and tuned to their own style.

Simon cowell stressed how important this would be after the first round of the two.

Since we are down to the final 5 and with each contestant allowed to sing twice tonight, I chose to select the best three performances of the night - even if two came from the same singer.

Here is my little commentary along with complimentary vidoe footage from their numbers.

Stunning. It’s probably uploaded several times by now, but when I found out the story behind the tears, I had to post this moving performance. His brother is dying of terminal brain cancer and had been flown there on a special medical flight to see his ‘little brother’ sing. An absolutely flawless interpretation and performance of Mariah Carey’s classic ballad.
